Ebola--Obama's Deadly Politically-Correct Disease

Over a month ago, I published two articles in this space on the subject of the Ebola virus, the first titled, “Ebola–Obama’s Latest Gift to America” and the second a few weeks later titled, “Ebola Spreading Uncontrollably.”

I intended the first piece as a sarcastic indictment of President Barack Hussein Obama and his administration’s ineptitude in dealing with a potential pandemic and concluded by writing, “The poor guy may just stay home in our White House, watch CNN, pray to Allah, and gleefully watch the body count.”

In the second I noted that, “To suggest the Ebola virus could very well and not in the distant future, reach and infect perhaps millions in America may be unnecessarily alarmist but such a suggestion could also reflect a reasonable doubt that Ebola researchers and physicians completely grasp its dangers or, for that matter, whether information as to its proliferation would even be publicized to suppress panic.”
Unfortunately but predictably, both articles are proving to have been all too prophetic and, though the causes are complex, their validity can be attributed mostly to the president’s obsession with political correctness and the attendant P.C. corollaries of self-defensive insecurities that supplement them. 

How else do we explain Obama’s repeatedly denigrating the critical interests of the nation he supposedly represents in service to foreign people and countries who present major threats and dangers to America but by an innate fear of offending them? 

Now that Brtain’s Daily Mail has dared to front-page the news that most people already expected, namely that Anthony Banbury, the Secretary General’s Special  Representative, has admitted a “nightmare” prospect that the Ebola virus could  easily become airborne instead of only being spread by bodily fluids as heretofore thought, compounded by officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention refusal to divulge any details on precise steps being adopted to contain the disease, suspicions are increasing that panic has set in. 

None of that news will influence President Obama’s P.C. approach toward controlling its spread but it all can mean that the simple act of breathing may soon become sufficient to communicate the most dangerous epidemic seen on our planet in many years.

We all reasonably hope and expect that resources such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, and similar publications either on the Internet or in hard copy form are reliable fonts of objective, unbiased information, the purpose of which is to inform and clarify.

With the notable exception of the often left-wing slanted “Wikipedia,” most similar publications have long faithfully fulfilled that weighty responsibility, until recently, that is.

The venerable, two hundred nine year old “Roget’s Thesaurus,” one of the most widely used resources for English-language synonyms, word  connotations, and grammar, recently abandoned any semblance of unbiased objectivity in favor of distorted, liberal-leftist political correctness. . . . Officials at Brooks Elementary School in Newnan, Ga. have banned birthday cupcakes, birthday cookies, indeed, any goodies associated with birthdays because they are worried that kids with food allergies might feel sad and excluded. They made no mention of whether young boys and girls at Brooks could feel sad over being unable to share their special days with classmates or whether anyone had complained about the long tradition.

At Dyer County High School in Tennessee, senior Kendra Turner graciously said “Bless you” in violation of a class rule when another student sneezed and was rebuked by her teacher for using language reserved for church.  The teacher added that “godly speaking” was verboten in her class and Ms. Turner courageously responded that it was her constitutional right to say what she did, was remanded to the principal’s office, and was promptly suspended from school.

The Fresno Unified School District hired Peter Beck to teach three cultural studies classes in its new Rutherford B. Gaston Middle School since Mr. Beck was deemed the best qualified candidate for the position.  Some local Fresno residents objected, not on the basis of his qualifications or the content of his character but due to the color of his skin with activist Rev. Karen Crozier explaining, ”We’re just saying what the community wants. We didn’t fight for a white male or female teacher to educate our babies.”

However the birthday cupcake fiasco in Georgia, the mini-constitutional crisis in Tennessee, and the black bigotry in California eventually play out is somewhat irrelevant.  The overriding issue is when Americans’ patient tolerance of intolerant political correctness in our schools and society will wear out?

Were P.C. extremes confined to three states, they would still be unacceptable but, in fact, the insidious disease of political correctness is pervasive in America and goes far beyond birthday cupcakes, religious freedom, and agitators clamoring for racially exclusionary rights. 

A brain child of liberal-leftists, political correctness was originally conceived as an effort to forcibly impose their standards with regards to correct language usage and their views on ideas and policies regarding any sort of discrimination against designated “protected classes,” such as gender, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age and disability.

Most likely by design, P.C. has devolved into a sickness infecting virtually every facet of American life, extending even into our nation’s immigration policies, our domestic policies, and our international relations.

America's P.C. Education Part One: Public Schools

 

The liberal-leftist farce called the Common Core State Standards Initiative, the misbegotten brainchild not of America’s states but of the federal government, has often been exposed here and by massive numbers of other objective observers as nothing more than an effort to seize control of American education by socialist zealots intent on both subverting American education and corrupting the minds and hearts of America’s students through political correctness.

The Common Core was doomed to failure from the outset and, no doubt, will soon become a distant, expensive memory, which is not to suggest it will not leave in its wake corrosive P.C. thinking in both public schools and on college and university levels of education.  (Part Two will deal with the latter.)

Granted, political correctness has long been ingrained in teachers’ and administrations’ philosophies but it has grown like invasive kudzu in recent years, often instigated by President Barack Hussein Obama’s lie that we now live in a race-neutral society.

The following represents a mere fraction of the rampant, violent, and unpunished black racism going on in America’s public school systems which go largely un-reported by our nation’s mainstream media.

For example:

—The new Rutherford B. Gaston Middle School in Fresno, California.  The school hired a white, male teacher, presumably because he was best qualified for the position of teaching African-American/Latino studies.  Unfair, claimed community and church leaders who demanded the Fresno Unified School District rescind the job offer and instead offer it to a black teacher, presumably regardless of that teacher’s qualifications.

A protest led by Rev. Karen Crozier who denounced Gaston’s original choice an atrocity, and thereby revealed the palpable black racism that today is perfectly acceptable or, at least, politically correct. 

In Fresno, the color of one’s skin obviously takes precedence over all other considerations.

—Hempstead, Texas middle school.  On a related front in America’s culture wars, Hempstead’s principal Amy Lacey was initially placed on administrative leave and subsequently fired for asking on the intercom that Hispanic students speak English in the school’s classrooms.

To no avail, Ms. Lacey’s attorney explained that his client imposed “no consequences for speaking Spanish in class” and that “Ms. Lacey stated her respect for the Hispanic culture and language.”  She defended herself by explaining, “I informed students it would be best to speak English in the classrooms to  the extent possible, in order to help prepare them for [state] tests . . . I did not ban the use of Spanish anywhere in the school or at any time.”

Tough nookies, Madame principal; you lost and P.C. won.

The University of Notre Dame du Lac, (“Our Lady of the Lake” referring to the Virgin Mary), near South Bend, Indiana, more commonly known as Notre Dame, has long been considered the shining crown  jewel of Catholic higher education in America.

Despite a long 172 year history of producing some of the most illustrious graduates in the nation, including former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Nobel Prize winner Eric F. Wieschaus, as well as lesser lights such as talk show hosts Regis Philbin and Phil Donahue and  sports legends like Knute Rockne, Joe Theisman, and a multitude of others, Notre Dame is failing in its mission, failing its alumni, and failing as a Catholic institution.

Precisely when this once-outstanding Catholic university began devolving into a secular bastion of politically correctness is unclear.

It may have begun when Notre Dame turned over effective control of the school to a Board of Trustees in 1967 instead of by the continued leadership of the Congregation of Holy Cross.  It may have begun when it went co-educational in 1972 and admitted women for the first time.  It may have been when they simply decided that it was time they join their fellow liberal leftists by subverting principle in a misguided quest for national acceptance and prestige.

(Not incidentally, Notre Dame trustees include Barack Obama fundraisers, contributors to his campaign, recipients of Obama earmarks, pro-abortionist judges, indicted frauds, embryonic stem cell researchers, and bank recipients of government bailouts.)

Whenever the change began, when Father John I. Jenkins assumed the Notre Dame presidency nine years ago and proclaimed his unwavering  commitment to “making the university a leader in research that recognizes ethics and building the connection between faith and studies” and a commitment to research leadership, many of the university’s troubles ballooned.

Father Jenkins may have achieved his goal of transforming Notre Dame into something other than just the home of “Fighting Irish” football but he failed miserably in achieving that ethical “connection between faith and studies.”  He evidently forgot the words of its founder, Rev. Edward Sorin, CSC who said, “This college will be one of the most powerful means for doing good in this country.”

Perhaps the first clear indication that the school had lost its way and had become less interested in doing good than in doing what served Father Jenkins’ secular purposes, that he had surrendered Notre Dame’s guiding values and had subserviently succumbed to political correctness at the cost of Catholic ethics came in 2009.

That year, after suing him in federal court for violating their First Amendment rights, the university outrageously invited President Barack Hussein Obama to be its principal Commencement speaker. 

Father Jenkins gleefully escorted his guest into the Joyce Center and introduced him as “President Barack H. Obama,” omitting the full middle name Obama had used at his inauguration. 

He lauded the president and gushed over his reciprocated, laudatory remarks, and awarded a man who endorses partial birth abortions, legalized infanticide, an honorary Notre Dame Doctor of Laws degree.

During the process of heaping accolades on the most pro-abortion president in America’s history, Father Jenkins ignored the written protests of thousands of alumni, the hundreds of protestors outside the gates, 37 of whom were arrested when they dared to enter the campus, and the graduates who chose principle over spectacle by gathering at the grotto in Notre Dame, the one place on campus reserved for reflection and prayer.
